The Alsace gastronomic scene is deeply rooted in both its history and location, which have formed its cuisine with a mix of French and German influences. The region has been under the control of both France and Germany throughout its history, and this has resulted in a unique culinary fusion that is both diverse and flavorful.

No shortage of great restaurants in Alsace.

The region’s traditional dishes such as choucroute (sauerkraut cooked with meat), baeckeoffe (meat and potato stew), and flammekueche (a thin-crust pizza topped with bacon, onions and crème fraiche) are adopted from its German heritage, whereas the French impact is seen more in Alsace’s wine and cheeses.

His family has been growing wine grapes in Alsace since 1744. Today the winery is in the hands of Marcel’s grandson Jean-Michel Deiss who is in turn assisted by his own son, Matthieu.

The charming village of Niedermorschwihr.

Approximately 8km from the town of Colmar along the 170km Vins d’Alsace (Alsace Wine Route) lies the town of Niedermorschwihr, a charming village that is home to a small number of wineries surrounded by a stunning tapestry of steep vineyards. There, along the main cobblestone street is where we were introduced to Domaine Justin Boxler, a family winery making wine since 1672 that was the most surprising revelation during our first visit to Alsace.
