RMS sparkling wine.
When you think of sparkling wine, your mind likely drifts to the rolling hills of Champagne or perhaps the crisp fizz of northern Italy. Oregon? It’s probably not the first place that pops into your head. But spend a little time among the misty vineyards of the Willamette Valley, and you’ll discover a quiet revolution in the glass.
Here, where cool mornings meet volcanic soils and Pinot Noir reigns supreme, a new generation of winemakers is crafting sparkling wines that don’t just whisper elegance—they sing with it. I’ve tasted bubbles from around the world, but Oregon’s are among the few that have made me pause, smile, and reach for a second glass.
So what makes Oregon such fertile ground for sparkling wine stardom? It’s all in the bones of the place.

The state’s cool-climate pedigree, especially in the Willamette Valley, offers a near-perfect stage for crafting méthode traditionnelle bubbles that rival their Old World counterparts.
First, there’s the climate: crisp, maritime-influenced, and mercifully slow to ripen grapes like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. This drawn-out growing season lets acidity shine—a non-negotiable backbone for any serious sparkling wine.
Then there’s the soil—Oregon is a geologic patchwork, from ancient volcanic basalt to marine sedimentary layers, each adding its own nuance, minerality, and textural intrigue. Elevation plays its part too, with higher vineyard sites preserving freshness and aromatic lift, the kind that dances across the palate.

And let’s not overlook the ethos. Oregon’s commitment to sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s baked into the culture. Many producers farm organically or biodynamically, with an eye toward both environmental stewardship and wine purity. That integrity comes through in the glass: vibrant, expressive, and unmistakably Oregon.
Oregon’s sparkling wine scene didn’t just appear overnight—it’s been steadily building, vintage by vintage, thanks to a handful of visionary producers who saw the state’s potential long before the rest of us caught on. These pioneering wineries have been laying the groundwork for what’s become one of the most exciting chapters in Oregon wine today. Their bottles don’t mimic Champagne or California—they stand proudly on their own, with a signature that’s distinctly Northwest.
Here are some of the names leading the charge, crafting bubbles that are not only turning heads, but turning perceptions of what Oregon can do:

An Oregon pioneer.
You can’t talk about Oregon sparkling wine without tipping your hat to Argyle.
Long before “Oregon bubbles” became a buzzword, Argyle was already walking the walk. Since the 1980s, this Dundee-based winery has been crafting méthode traditionnelle sparklers that consistently overdeliver. At the helm for 25 years was Rollin Soles—a charismatic, cowboy-hatted trailblazer whose passion for sparkling wine helped shape the region’s reputation. Today, Argyle’s Vintage Brut, Blanc de Blancs, and Brut Rosé remain benchmarks: refined, expressive, and always impeccably balanced.
After leaving his mark at Argyle, Rollin Soles didn’t hang up his hat—he doubled down.

Rollin Soles.
At ROCO, the winery he co-founded with his wife Corby, Soles continues to push the boundaries of Oregon sparkling wine with precision and flair. The RMS Brut is a masterclass in balance: vibrant citrus, fine bubbles, and that signature creamy finish that speaks to Soles’ decades of expertise. And if you need proof that greatness only improves with time, look no further than the 2013 RMS Brut 10-Year Delayed Disgorgement, which earned the coveted title of Wine Enthusiast’s #1 wine of the year.

Founder Tony Soter, with deep winemaking roots in Napa and a longtime love for méthode traditionnelle, brought his passion for sparkling to Oregon with remarkable results at Soter Vineyards. The Mineral Springs Brut and Brut Rosé are standout examples: precise, energetic, and beautifully expressive of both place and vintage. Soter’s sparkling program continues to be one of the most refined and consistent in the state, setting a high bar vintage after vintage.
Corollary Wines is one of Oregon’s most exciting new voices in sparkling wine, devoted exclusively to bubbles—and it shows. Specializing exclusively in sparkling wine, Corollary has taken an exploratory approach, experimenting with vineyard sites and techniques to showcase the breadth of Oregon’s potential for sparkling production. With each release, they’re not just producing exceptional sparkling wine—they’re helping to define what Oregon bubbles can be.

Lytle-Barnett sparkling.
A relatively newer name in the scene, Lytle-Barnett focuses exclusively on méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines, creating expressive, structured bottlings that have quickly gained acclaim.
Best known for its world-class Pinot Noir, Domaine Serene has also emerged as a serious player in the sparkling wine game. The “Evenstad Reserve” Blanc de Blancs and Rosé Brut reveal a deep understanding of méthode traditionnelle winemaking, delivering elegance, precision, and layered complexity. These wines aren’t an afterthought—they reflect the same high standards and attention to detail that have long defined the winery’s reputation.

Iris Vineyards.
Located in the southern Willamette Valley, Iris Vineyards is making a name for itself with sparkling wines that capture both elegance and energy. Their Areté label represents the pinnacle of their production, featuring a stunning lineup of Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs, and Brut Rosé, each showcasing remarkable finesse and depth.

While the Bubbles Trail sounds intriguing, what Soter is doing is even more so. I’ve been out of the ‘everything north of the Umpqua Valley loop’, so appreciate your article. How could one pass up distinctively northwest signature sparkling wines!?!
