2010 Marimar Estate Pinot Noir Don Miguel Vineyard La Masia
Some slight age on the rim, this 6 year old wine is showing terrific complexity with layers of red fruits, earth, herbs, and spice. A powerful Pinot yet still elegant because it is so well structured. A wonderfully smooth mouthfeel with medium tannins and acidity that is simply a joy to drink. Not breaking down but all parts seem to be working in such great harmony, why wait?

1999 Remelluri La Granja Rioja Gran Reserva
Wow. A lovely example of a more classic style Rioja. Incredibly elegant and sophisticated with tons of complexity. Both black and red fruits on the nose backed with earth, spice, and some vanilla. Medium in body with less acidity than expected, it had a structure and smoothness that was simply beautiful with a nice savory finish. Drinking perfectly in our estimation but in no danger of breaking down for a while yet.

2002 Pol Roger Extra Cuvee de Reserve
Since 1849 Pol Roger has been making some of Champagne’s finest wines and is now one of the premier Grande Marques. Golden colour with lively mousse. The nose is a lovely combination of warm bread dough backed up with notes of lemon zest and slight floral tones. The palate is wonderfully smooth and rich with a slight honey character to provide a counter-point to the lemon and grapefruit notes. This is a significant step above their NV Brut and well worth the relatively small premium in price. 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from Montaigne de Reims and Cote de Blancs.

2006 Betz Family Syrah La Serenne
Dark purple in colour, this 10 year old wine is showing no age on the rim. Lots of fruit on the nose, particularly blackberry, blueberry, raspberry and some plum. Secondary notes of chocolate and earth with a hint of menthol. This is a smooth, plush wine with terrific structure and very long finish that is drinking beautifully now but still has a few years before it peaks. 100% Syrah from the Boushey Vineyard.

2005 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection
Dark red in colour this is a big, fruit forward wine that’s is classic California cab. Black cherry and blackberry on the nose with vanilla, oak and earth backing it up. Very creamy both in taste and texture this is very smooth with a nice long finish. Certainly not breaking down but given it wasn’t very tannic or acidic we definitely think it’s at its peak.

2006 Amalie Robert Amalie’s Cuvée Pinot Noir
Absolutely delicious. Fully mature at ten years old but not yet fading. Wonderfully complex with notes of red cherry, cranberry, earth, pepper and vanilla. Medium in body, this wine is soft and smooth but with just enough structure to keep it well in balance. A beautiful example of why Oregon Pinot Noir has such a great reputation.
