Hot Off The Vine

Wehlener Sonnenuhr2012 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese

A fantastic Riesling showing all the elements we love in a Spätlese. Crisp and clean yet at the same time rich with a long finish. A lovely balance between its sweetness and the tart notes of of green apple and lime. Medium in body, it has a great acidity while still providing a smooth, round mouthfeel.

Excellent – ($65 + taxes at BC Liquor Stores)

Washington Wine2002 Delille Cellars Chaleur Estate

Deep red in colour you’d never guess it was a 14 year old wine. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, this wine is a shining example of why these grapes so work well together. The blackcurrant, earth and mint notes of the Cab pair beautifully with the plum notes and voluptuousness of the Merlot giving this wine a wonderful complexity and ultra-smooth mouth feel. One of our all-time favourite wines from Washington that is drinking at its peak.

Washington Wine2002 Betz Family Cabernet Sauvignon Père de Famille

Dark red in colour, this wine is only slightly faded at the rim which is surprising given its age at 14 years. Fantastic nose revealing lots of black fruit, pepper and earth. Medium plus in body this is a bold, smooth wine that has very nice complexity. Very Bordeaux like in style it has a medium to long finish with lots of tannin left to make us think this still has several years left.

Napa Valley Wine2003 Robert Mondavi Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

A powerful but not overpowering wine, it delivered superb complexity with notes of blackberry, blueberry, spice cake and vanilla. Bold and intense yet so well balanced as to still come across as elegant. Drinking beautifully now but still has lots of time if you were to lose it in the back of your cellar for another decade. Extraordinary

French WinePierre Peters NV Grand Cru Extra Brut

A delicious Champagne. The wine spent 5 years on lees before release and is 65% 2005 and 35% 2004. 100% Chardonnay mostly from Le Mesnil with some fruit from Avize, Cramant and Oger. The time on lees shows through in the beautiful bread dough palate, backed up by notes of green apple. The acidity is accentuated by the persistent bead. This is quite full bodied and pairs very well with food. Wrapped together these separate components harmonize into a wonderful balance that shows simultaneous power and elegance. 2g/l dosage. Fantastic.

Washington Wine2005 Woodward Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon Artist Series #14

Dark red with only the slightest fade at the rim. Gorgeous nose of crème de cassis, blackberry and cedar hits your nose when it is well above the glass. Dark fruit flavours are joined by mocha and baking spices delivered in a full bodied style with tannin and oak that are both present but well integrated. Wonderful velvety texture and mouth feel that can only be achieved after long aging. 30 second+ finish. Seems to be at peak right now, but could easily go another 5 years.

Excellent/Extraordinary
