La Maison du Colombier is a popular gastro pub located in the heart of Beaune that offers a unique dining experience with a focus on local, seasonal ingredients. Three sets of unrelated friends recommended it, and we fully understand why.

The restaurant’s menu features a range of classic French dishes, such as escargots, steak tartare, and roasted chicken, as well as more contemporary offerings such as truffle risotto and ceviche. They probably shouldn’t have let us in the cellar…

Our sommelier was friendly and knowledgeable and his recommendations were spot on in terms of local, lesser known gems that were the perfect wine to accompany our meal. Overall, 21 Boulevard offers a truly exceptional dining experience that combines exquisite food, impeccable service, and a stunning setting to create a memorable evening in Beaune.

L’Arche des Vins

While not a restaurant, we were so impressed by this local wine bar, we had to add it to our list of recommendations.

L’Arche des Vins

Opened just over a year ago, one would think with all the great spots in and around Beaune, it will be a challenge to stand out. But in the case of L’Arche des Vins, we suspect it has a very long future ahead.

The wine list by the bottle and glass are both impressive and it was the perfect spot to kick off our first trip to Beaune. While we had high expectations on the wine list which was definitely met, we didn’t expect much in terms of the food options being a bar but it offered up a truly exceptional charcuterie board. A ideal spot for an aperitif, a wine and tapas meal, or a perfect nightcap to end a day of winery explorations.

Restaurant Le 428 (@ Hôtel L’Ouvrée)

Restaurant Le 428 was without question our foodie discovery of the trip.

We happened upon it at the midway point of a self-guided vineyard walk that took us through Savigny-les-Beaunes right at lunchtime. The food is exceptional, the service is impeccable, and the atmosphere is unpretentious and inviting.

From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a welcoming ambiance. The food is so fresh that there is no menu, they bring out whatever they are making that day. We ended up consuming a half a dozen dishes that were astonishingly good, each dish presented in Michelin-like impressiveness. If you told us it had 3 stars we would have absolutely believed it!

Domaine Trapet Père et Fils is a winery located in Gevrey-Chambertin. They’re best known for producing exceptional biodynamic wines from their vineyards, many of which are Grand Cru, that have been carefully tended by the Trapet family over several generations.

The winery hosts a wine and food pairing lunch seasonally that showcases their wines with the very best of the region’s gastronomy. Our lunch featured fresh in-house baked bread with Foie gras, the best Beef Bourguignon we’ve ever tasted and a chocolate mousse each paired with a different wine from the winery’s collection.

When in France…

The last course was an exquisite cheese plate that was paired with their blend from Schlossberg vineyard, one of the most renowned in Alsace.

The lunch was a beautiful representation of the winery’s commitment to quality and tradition. It allowed guests to experience the rich flavors of Burgundy while at the same time tasting the unique terroir of each vineyard. The combination of exceptional wine and delicious food made for a truly unforgettable culinary experience.

    • We were absolutely blown away. You know it’s truly fresh and local when there’s no menu! And despite being so casual having been hiking for a few hours prior, it was gloriously unpretentious.
