Haywire Lunar Red honouring the Year of the Snake.

As the Lunar New Year approaches—a time rich with community and celebration—there’s one bottle in particular that deserves a place on your table. Haywire Winery has just released its limited-edition Haywire Lunar Red, crafted to honour the Year of the Snake on January 29, 2025. Available for $28.88 per bottle, this special release continues a tradition that began in 2014 when Haywire became the first winery in British Columbia to create a Lunar New Year wine.

Haywire’s Lunar Red is no stranger to the spotlight. Previous vintages have been extremely popular captivating wine lovers looking for something memorable to ring in the Lunar New Year. This year, Haywire continues this meaningful tradition with a wine that’s not only delicious but also deeply meaningful.

Haywire is dedicating partial proceeds from every bottle sold to the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation, supporting vital programs that celebrate and preserve Chinatown’s vibrant heritage. Sipping this wine means raising a glass to a stronger, more connected community.

Christine Coletta, founder of Haywire Winery, emphasizes the wine’s broader cultural significance:

“The return of Haywire Lunar Red is particularly meaningful to us, as it celebrates the cultural diversity of our province and encourages greater understanding of beliefs beyond our own.”

Since its inception, Haywire’s Lunar Red series has delighted wine lovers, becoming a cherished annual release. The 2025 release (from the 2022 vintage) blends Merlot and Cabernet Franc, crafting a wine that makes an excellent pairing with the bold, diverse flavors of Lunar New Year feasts.

When Haywire sent over a media sample of their limited-edition Lunar Red, specially crafted to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, we knew this wasn’t going to be your average wine tasting moment. The distinct label alone was enough to set the tone, but the real fun started once we popped the cork.

To honour the occasion, we decided to pair this offering with a feast of classic Chinese dishes, and it didn’t disappoint.

The 2022 Haywire Lunar Red offers a sensory experience that complements the bold and diverse flavors of Lunar New Year feasts.

The Lunar Red pairs brilliantly with traditional Chinese dishes.

With aromas of dark cherry, black licorice, leather, and subtle earthiness, the wine delivers a medium-bodied profile with soft tannins and vibrant acidity. On the palate, flavours of dark red fruits, cherry cola, fennel, and dark cocoa harmonize in a long, bright finish.

Its versatility shines when paired with classic Chinese dishes—think ginger beef, smoky sauces, and wok-seared vegetables. This is a wine crafted for shared meals and lively toasts, a bottle that will easily elevate your celebration—all while offering excellent value at just $28.99, making it an accessible luxury for the occasion.
