Apple and pear dominate the aromatic and flavor profile of this wine. This has medium body and good back end acidity and one could be forgiven for guessing Burgundy in a blind tasting. Already complex there are notes of citrus, minerals and nuts to underscore the fruit. The finish is long with hints of spice. Elegance dominates but there is underlying power as well. Very classy!
There are many great joys of the wine world and one of those is making a new discovery. For us at AdVINEtures, one of our better recent discoveries has been El Dorado County, just outside of Sacramento, California. We were first introduced to this gem of a wine region at the Wine Bloggers Conference 2017. A highlight of that conference was a presentation on El Dorado County put on by a number of their winemakers. That is where we met Justin Boeger, winemaker at Boeger Vineyards, as he poured his Barbera for the group and told us about his family winery. After that presentation we decided we had to check out El Dorado and definitely make a stop at Boeger Winery when we there.
In the 1860’s, Phylloxera, a tiny plant louse, hit Bordeaux hard and virtually all of the vineyards in the region were ruined. Desperate not to lose their wine entirely, Bordeaux winemakers travelled to Rioja and invested heavily in the region in order to continue making wine until a solution could be found. Our trip with Iberian Wine Tours followed this “phylloxera trail” and what we experienced was a journey filled with terrific wine, culinary delights, and a lifetime of experiences we won’t soon forget.
When people think of the wine world and ask where the best wines come from, they will no doubt receive many answers. Since there are many different tastes, a variety of answers is proper. Certainly Bordeaux would receive numerous mentions. Bordeaux, as a region, not only produces some of the greatest wines in the world, it also produces a large portion of wine in the world. It was one of the first regions to produce wine on a commercial scale and the techniques that its vignerons and winemakers have developed have been very influential to growers and vintners around the world.
