2009 K Vintners Roma En Chamberlin
We loved the complexity of this wine made up of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Syrah. It revealed notes of blackberries, blueberries, black cherries, earth, a hint of vanilla and had a very long finish. As big as this wine was, it was very smooth and the tannins were in check.

Although the alcohol laws of Utah are amongst the most restrictive in the United States, they haven’t managed to deter winemakers from producing wines of note or keep breweries and distilleries from thriving.

2014 Avennia Oliane Sauvignon Blanc
100% Sauvignon Blanc from the Boushey (55%) & Red Willow (45%) Vineyards. Grapefruit & green apple are the dominant fruit flavours that receive support from lemon notes and cut grass. There is a fullness to the wine which balances the crisp acidity. There is none of the pungency that many New World Sauvignons have taken on. We are reminded of a Pouilly-Fumé with the dials turned up. The finish is long and minerally.

1998 Chateau Gazin Pomerol
Dark red in colour, the nose initially revealed a floral scent that was quickly replaced with lots of plum and cherry backed with an earthy component. This wine showed great complexity and balance but had a short finish and lacked the intensity we had expected. A very enjoyable and elegant wine however, if fell just short of being an overall excellent for us.

2005 DeLille Cellars Doyenne Syrah
Deep red/black in colour. Blackberry and black cherry are complimented with baking spice notes and vanilla on the highly expressive nose. The dark fruits carry on to the palate where they create a very intense flavor profile. Full bodied and still somewhat tannic, this is a powerful wine. But the balance here is very precise and tannin, fruit, alcohol and oak are all there and in equal measure so no aspect overpowers. A delicious expression of Syrah, powerful but smooth, one of the best the New World has to offer. Just entering maturity and could go up to a decade longer.
