Washington Wine2010 Darby The Swagger

This delicious blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec shows classic Darby style: ripe, plush fruit, soft tannins and a smooth mouthfeel—a joy to drink! At age 6 this is fully mature showing lots of secondary notes of cedar and mocha to go with the black cherry and currant fruit. Perfect match for braised short ribs on a wintery night. Could go longer but drinking so well now, why wait?

Excellent (2011 Vintage available at their Woodinville Tasting Room for US$50)

Washington Wine2002 Delille Cellars Chaleur Estate

Deep red in colour you’d never guess it was a 14 year old wine. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, this wine is a shining example of why these grapes so work well together. The blackcurrant, earth and mint notes of the Cab pair beautifully with the plum notes and voluptuousness of the Merlot giving this wine a wonderful complexity and ultra-smooth mouth feel. One of our all-time favourite wines from Washington that is drinking at its peak.

Washington Wine2002 Betz Family Cabernet Sauvignon Père de Famille

Dark red in colour, this wine is only slightly faded at the rim which is surprising given its age at 14 years. Fantastic nose revealing lots of black fruit, pepper and earth. Medium plus in body this is a bold, smooth wine that has very nice complexity. Very Bordeaux like in style it has a medium to long finish with lots of tannin left to make us think this still has several years left.

Washington Wine2005 Woodward Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon Artist Series #14

Dark red with only the slightest fade at the rim. Gorgeous nose of crème de cassis, blackberry and cedar hits your nose when it is well above the glass. Dark fruit flavours are joined by mocha and baking spices delivered in a full bodied style with tannin and oak that are both present but well integrated. Wonderful velvety texture and mouth feel that can only be achieved after long aging. 30 second+ finish. Seems to be at peak right now, but could easily go another 5 years.
