Washington Wine2002 Delille Cellars Chaleur Estate

Deep red in colour and showing none of its age at 14 years old, this is a big, bold, powerful wine that is drinking absolutely perfectly now. Wonderfully complex, we picked up dark and red fruits of black and red cherry, blueberry and plum, rounded out with mocha, earth and a hint of vanilla. A juicy acidity to this wine that also revealed a sweetness to it reminiscent of chocolate covered cherry and liquer. Made up of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, in a blind taste we think we would have guessed Merlot dominant because of its plushness. Very smooth mouthfeel with a superbly long finish.

We loved the complexity of this wine made up of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Syrah. It revealed notes of blackberries, blueberries, black cherries, earth, a hint of vanilla and had a very long finish. As big as this wine was, it was very smooth and the tannins were in check.

Washington Wine 2014 Avennia Oliane Sauvignon Blanc

100% Sauvignon Blanc from the Boushey (55%) & Red Willow (45%) Vineyards. Grapefruit & green apple are the dominant fruit flavours that receive support from lemon notes and cut grass. There is a fullness to the wine which balances the crisp acidity. There is none of the pungency that many New World Sauvignons have taken on. We are reminded of a Pouilly-Fumé with the dials turned up. The finish is long and minerally.

Washington Wine2005 DeLille Cellars Doyenne Syrah

Deep red/black in colour. Blackberry and black cherry are complimented with baking spice notes and vanilla on the highly expressive nose. The dark fruits carry on to the palate where they create a very intense flavor profile. Full bodied and still somewhat tannic, this is a powerful wine. But the balance here is very precise and tannin, fruit, alcohol and oak are all there and in equal measure so no aspect overpowers. A delicious expression of Syrah, powerful but smooth, one of the best the New World has to offer. Just entering maturity and could go up to a decade longer.

Washington Wine2012 Lauren Ashton Cabernet Sauvignon

Aromas of blackberries and black currants greets your nose well before it reaches the glass. A little swirling brings out nuances of cedar, vanilla and earthy notes. Full bodied, with plenty of dusty tannin this is a wine that will have a long life in front of it. Despite the tannin, the texture remains smooth, as there is plenty of fruit to keep the whole thing in balance. The finish is long and delicious. This will be hard to keep your hands off, but if you can give it a bit of cellar time, it will pay big dividends!
