Despite being a relatively big and intense California Pinot, the 2012 Mount Eden is wonderfully balanced and still classically Pinot in every way—lots of red fruits, particularly raspberry & currant, backed up with notes of pepper and earth. Medium in body and acidity, it still has some time left to enjoy for a few years yet.

An intense and very expressive wine, it showed a tremendous nose of floral and spice combined with a wonderful earthiness. Other than wanting the fruit to show a bit stronger, this wine has all of the components we love in a New World Pinot Noir.

Russian River2012 En Garde Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

Our first time tasting En Garde and we were suitably impressed with this wine. Medium in colour with a medium plus body it was fruit forward with cherry and spice on the nose, and secondary notes of vanilla. This is a big Pinot, definitely from the new world but also very much in balance maintaining an elegant quality. We will definitely be paying more attention to winemaker/proprieter Csaba Szakal’s offerings!
