2007 Talisman Red Dog Vineyard Pinot Noir
The Red Dog Vineyard sits above the Bennett Valley, just outside of Glen Ellen, in Sonoma County. Made from 100% Dijon clones. At age 10 this has attained full maturity. The age has given it a lovely texture; a soft, silky mouthfeel to its medium body. Red cherry fruit gets back up from spice notes of clove, pepper and allspice. There is a hint of minerality on the finish. The oak is perfectly integrated, adding some texture and just a hint of vanilla. At peak now. Delicious.

2003 Robert Mondavi Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
A powerful but not overpowering wine, it delivered superb complexity with notes of blackberry, blueberry, spice cake and vanilla. Bold and intense yet so well balanced as to still come across as elegant. Drinking beautifully now but still has lots of time if you were to lose it in the back of your cellar for another decade. 2005 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection
Dark red in colour this is a big, fruit forward wine that’s is classic California cab. Black cherry and blackberry on the nose with vanilla, oak and earth backing it up. Very creamy both in taste and texture this is very smooth with a nice long finish. Certainly not breaking down but given it wasn’t very tannic or acidic we definitely think it’s at its peak.

2011 Arista Winery Zinfandel Smokey Ridge Vineyard
The dark red colour of this wine is about all that gave it away as a Zinfandel! Some blackberry and blueberry on the nose backed up with pepper but not as fruit forward as we had expected. Secondary notes of earth along with some nice acidity. A very enjoyable and balanced wine that just lacked a little complexity.
Very Good

In Pursuit of Balance (“IPOB”) is the creation of rock-star sommelier and now winery owner Rajat Parr and vineyard owner Jasmine Hirsch. Just exactly what is IPOB is not easy to answer. A group of like-minded California wine-makers? A marketing collective? A wine seminar producer? An ideological movement? It is all of the foregoing, or at least it was, but 5 years after being created, and arguably at the height of its power and popularity it has suddenly, and of its own volition, decided to end its existence at the end of 2016.
