2001 Joseph Phelps Insignia (Napa, CA)
Just by looking at this wine in the glass with its dark purple (almost black) appearance, you know you’re in for something big and bold. The nose supports this thought as the aromas of dark fruits such as blackberry and blueberry immediately jump out along with secondary notes of earth and mocha. But in true Phelps fashion the powerful character of this vintage is extremely well balanced with a smooth, plush mouthfeel and a finish that seemingly goes on forever. A classic “Merlot lover’s Cab”, we expect this wine to be drinking well for another 10+ years.

2007 Chalone Vineyard Pinot Noir (Central California Coast)
This wine goes for a more Burgundian style with its earthiness and leaner profile. A nice change within a region that seems to want to push fruit and power to the max. It definitely seems age-worthy too.
