Kistler Chardonnay 20102010 Kistler Les Noisetiers Chardonnay

The 2010 Kistler Les Noisetiers is a big and wonderfully complex Chardonnay that screams California! It is full bodied and creamy with tropical notes of pineapple and peach balanced with caramel and vanilla. The mouth feel was smooth and plush and it provided a nice long finish. We paired it with garlic butter prawns & scallops with an outstanding result.

Chateau Petrus Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend1981 Chateau Pétrus – Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend

Red colour fading to orange at the rim. An incredible nose that was an ethereal mix of red fruits, forest and a hint of spice. It entranced and made an indescribable impression. The palate started out light and thin but put on weight over the two hours it was in our glasses. At its worst it came across a bit hollow, at its best it showed wonderful elegance and complexity. There were many changes over the course of the night. Not the best wine we have drank but certainly very memorable and enjoyable.

2010 Barrage Cellars Outcast2010 Barrage Cellars Outcast Cabernet Franc

The 2010 Barrage Cellars Outcast is a 100% Cabernet Franc from two of Washington State’s most renown vineyards–60% Boushey & 40% Red Willow. The result is a big, bold wine with a softness and balance that in a blind tasting had us thinking it might have been a Merlot. Blackcurrant, black cherry and plum dominated the nose with secondary spicy notes of pepper. A wonderfully complex wine, the plum and spice come through on the palate first and then you pick up the tobacco and leather on a lovely medium plus finish. Drinking beautifully now but has many years to go–its structure and complexity will make this an even more interesting wine as it ages. With only 263 cases produced, do your best to get your hands on a bottle if you can, you won’t be disappointed!

Bottle of Elderton Cabernet

2005 Elderton Cabernet Sauvignon Ashmead Vineyard

Dark red with a slight fade at rim. Very expressive nose of black currants and blackberries. Big, full bodied and comes across as quite Napa-like with its almost plush mouth feel. Flavours of black cherry are supported with a lovely spice and herb nuance. It finishes grippy and long. Fully mature now but should have many more years in front of it.

2007 Marimar Mas Cavalls Pinot Noir2007 Marimar Estate Mas Cavalls Pinot Noir (Doña Margarita Vineyard)

From the moment we opened this bottle, we noted aromas of black cherry and red currant alongside secondary notes of spice, earth and strawberry. A big, medium to full bodied Pinot with intense flavours of cherry and spice, without being overpowering. Very smooth, balanced and wonderfully complex amidst so many different descriptors! It’s showing no signs of breaking down and drinking beautifully now…so why wait?

Ostatu Rioja label2005 Bodegas Ostatu Rioja Alavesa

Fruit driven nose of strawberry with herbal accents and a touch of vanilla. Palate is medium body with ripe tannins gently showing through. Quite smooth with slight stemmy notes, this finds the mid-point between traditional Rioja and the modern style. Quite complex. Terrific value. Drink now as it seems to be at its peak.
