Washington Wine2012 Lauren Ashton Cabernet Sauvignon

Aromas of blackberries and black currants greets your nose well before it reaches the glass. A little swirling brings out nuances of cedar, vanilla and earthy notes. Full bodied, with plenty of dusty tannin this is a wine that will have a long life in front of it. Despite the tannin, the texture remains smooth, as there is plenty of fruit to keep the whole thing in balance. The finish is long and delicious. This will be hard to keep your hands off, but if you can give it a bit of cellar time, it will pay big dividends!

Australian Wine2002 d’Arenberg The Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon

A beautiful nose of black cherry & blackberry, a medium+ body with barely noticeable tannin & some nice acidity on the finish. It had an overall mouth feel showing great balance that can only be achieved after long cellaring. Secondary notes of forest & earth provided a good counterpoint to the confectured fruit on the attack. Fully mature & in a great place right now.

Washington Wine2003 Woodward Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon (Artist Series #12)

Right off the bat, this wine impressed with a magnificent nose of blackberry, cedar and a hint of spice. A full bodied wine with a smooth mouth feel, it had a wonderfully long finish. It showed everything AdVINEtures loves in a wine – balance, length, intensity, complexity and expressiveness. At 13 years old, it was only showing a slight fade at the rim and tannin was still present leading us to believe this could easily stay cellared another 5 years or more.

Russian River2012 En Garde Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

Our first time tasting En Garde and we were suitably impressed with this wine. Medium in colour with a medium plus body it was fruit forward with cherry and spice on the nose, and secondary notes of vanilla. This is a big Pinot, definitely from the new world but also very much in balance maintaining an elegant quality. We will definitely be paying more attention to winemaker/proprieter Csaba Szakal’s offerings!

Barossa Valley2001 E&E Black Pepper Shiraz

A classic full bodied Aussie Shiraz where time in the cellar has made it smooth and plush, even elegant–not a term we often use with this style of wine! Drinking beautifully it is balanced and well structured revealing lots of blackberry, black cherry, and some plum, backed with black pepper, earth and a hint of clove. A powerful and wonderfully complex wine that paired perfectly with oven roasted lamb. We would recommend drinking now although it wasn’t breaking down…we just can’t imagine this getting any better.

Impassable Mountain2007 Hidden Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Impassable Mountain

Very dark, not revealing anything like an 8 year old in colour. Beautiful nose of blackberry and blueberry, with hints of cedar and vanilla mixed in. This is a big, powerful, full-bodied wine that was custom made for a grilled steak! Despite its size, it retains balance and does not overwhelm you. The finish goes on and on as it offers up minerals and a touch of spice. Definitely in the top echelon of California Cabernet.
