2007 Walter Hansel “The South Slope Vineyard” Pinot Noir
A terrific example of a top Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. Beautifully balanced with dark red fruits, specifically cherries and currants, combined with black pepper and earth and just enough vanilla to give it a little creaminess. Tons of complexity and expressiveness to this wine, a very smooth mouth feel and a surprisingly long finish for a Pinot Noir. Elegant and structured, this showed everything we love about this variety.

2002 Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Millésimé
Wow. Our expectations were high and the 2002 Jacquesson did not disappoint. At 57% Pinot Noir and 43% Chardonnay (disgorged in December 2011), it showed classic autolytic notes of brioche and yeast supported with notes of apple, pear and almond. Although rich and creamy in texture it was still quite delicate likely owing to the low dosage of 3.5g/l. Medium in body with a lovely acidity this is a wonderfully balanced Champagne that is ready to drink!

2007 Brewer-Clifton Rancho Santa Rosa Pinot Noir
Brewer-Clifton is one of our favourite Pinot Noirs out of the central coast of California and it did not disappoint. Big and fruity with lots of cherry and blackberry counterbalanced superbly with notes of earth and baking spices and black pepper on the finish. Medium + in body, it was smooth, intense and complex. Perfectly in balance right now, drink it if you have it!

2009 K Vintners Roma En Chamberlin
We loved the complexity of this wine made up of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Syrah. It revealed notes of blackberries, blueberries, black cherries, earth, a hint of vanilla and had a very long finish. As big as this wine was, it was very smooth and the tannins were in check.

2014 Avennia Oliane Sauvignon Blanc
100% Sauvignon Blanc from the Boushey (55%) & Red Willow (45%) Vineyards. Grapefruit & green apple are the dominant fruit flavours that receive support from lemon notes and cut grass. There is a fullness to the wine which balances the crisp acidity. There is none of the pungency that many New World Sauvignons have taken on. We are reminded of a Pouilly-Fumé with the dials turned up. The finish is long and minerally.
