The entrance to Pesquara Winery

Pesquera is the jewel in the crown of Alejandro Fernandez’ collection of wineries in Ribera del Duero, the wine region of Northern Spain that is attracting a lot of attention. Washington Wine2005 Woodward Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon Artist Series #14

Dark red with only the slightest fade at the rim. Gorgeous nose of crème de cassis, blackberry and cedar hits your nose when it is well above the glass. Dark fruit flavours are joined by mocha and baking spices delivered in a full bodied style with tannin and oak that are both present but well integrated. Wonderful velvety texture and mouth feel that can only be achieved after long aging. 30 second+ finish. Seems to be at peak right now, but could easily go another 5 years.

Excellent/Extraordinary

Sonoma2010 Marimar Estate Pinot Noir Don Miguel Vineyard La Masia

Some slight age on the rim, this 6 year old wine is showing terrific complexity with layers of red fruits, earth, herbs, and spice. A powerful Pinot yet still elegant because it is so well structured. A wonderfully smooth mouthfeel with medium tannins and acidity that is simply a joy to drink. Not breaking down but all parts seem to be working in such great harmony, why wait?

Excellent
