2020: A Year to Forget (and Remember)

Posted on Dec 30, 2020

If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s how quickly things can change…and how much a significant change can stay the same.

Covid masks

The new normal…

In a year defined by physical distancing, restrictions, and lockdowns, we’ve all experienced firsthand our own version of “Groundhog Day” as a result of months of self-isolation. Personally, COVID-19 not only prevented us from overseas AdVINEtures, it forced us to scale back on the thing we love most about wine, its inherent ability to bring people together.

With COVID-19 currently keeping us grounded from overseas travel, we’re lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful places on the planet that includes a world-class wine region. But we’ve been beyond pleasantly surprised by the leaps and bounds with which the Canadian wine industry has taken in terms of quality and consistency in recent years. In September of 2017 AdVINEtures had the privilege of joining Her Honour Judith Gichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, on a 3 day trip to the Okanagan Valley to present her award to 12 wineries and more recently we were a guest of Delta Air Lines at the Vancouver International Wine Festival (VIWF) where Canada was the featured region. What has become abundantly clear is that Canadian wine is not only earning respect on the world wine stage, it deserves it.

BC wine

More than half of all BC wineries are producing Rosé.

If you think you’ve been seeing more Rosé on the shelves in recent years, it’s not your imagination. Once dismissed as nothing more than a simple summer sipper, Rosé has seen a noticeable rise in demand thanks to an equally notable rise in quality and production. Rosé has consistently been one of the fastest growing retail wine categories in the world over the past few years. British Columbia is definitely not immune to this trend. Not only is consumer demand continuing to rise in our Province, local wineries are responding with more than half of those in BC now producing this popular pink elixir.
